How to wear a loose curly quick weave when your hair is natural and kinky

Hey all Sorry its been a while; life, a car accident and life has kinda sorta gotten in the way.

My bf and I went away and before I left I bought the Tiffany wig by Sensationel. Now ladies dont be fooled, I love BIG hair but this hair is bigger then life for real I almost felt overwelmed. At any rate its beautiful hair once you have some gloss in it and its very natural looking. To make my wig look even more natural I turned it inside out and dabbed my foundation that I used on my face on the inside of the lace where the part shows (at the front). I rubbed it in with a rag then flipped it back to its original side and made sure it didnt bleed through on the hair. I kept dabbing it on the inside until the cap was brown.

This way when I wear a black wig cap the lace appears brown and the hair appears to be coming out of my scalp. Try this trick. You can also do it with sally hansen spray though I dont recommend using it if you have aheavy hand or are inexperienced as you might spray out more then you need and have it bleed onto the hairs. Cleaning it off the hairs is HARD so if your a novice and want to try I'd recommend using the foundation trick first before you graduate to any sprays.

Sorry i didnt take a pic of the lace close up but I do this to almost all my wigs and for the ones I do people always think its my hair and not some BSS (beauty supply store) wig that I picked up. I firmly beleive in owning all your hair pieces and you can only do that by cutting, styling and personalizing your hair. Anyone can wear a wig but it takes a diva to rock the style, own it, personalize it and have it look like its hers right from the jump even if you know she got it at the local BSS.

I know a girl like this, her hair is a weave and you know it but she owns it, puts her persoanl style and touch and she makes you want to go pick up that hair and do it like her. She is innovative and ladies you can be too. I firmly believe there is no reason everyone needs to know you are wearing a wig.

Next thing I want to touch on is: be choose-y about what type of wig and or hair piece you opt to wear. Nowadays everyone is wearing wigs and weaves. Black girls dont have a monopoly on the market anymore. For example I was walking in the mall christmas shopping and I had to make myself tear my eyes off this white girl strolling beside me who was wearing a fully head of fusion extentions. I almost couldnt believe it. She pulled that bad boy back in a pony and was swinging it in the mall like it was no ones business and you know what, if I wasnt so close I wouldnt have known it was fusion because it blended nicely in with her dark roots and her blond ends. Now if a white girl can own it why cant we?

In todays wig and weave market there are so many hair pieces to choose from with a variety of price points that there really is no excuse to have a bad piece. There are kinky, curly, kinycurly, waves, curls, straight, yaki, mink yaki, italian yaki, indian, bohemian, mongolian, chinese and the list goes on for the types of textures you can buy in a wig or weave. You dont have to worry that you must have your hair permed to blend into the hairpiece. And you dont have to worry that your hair must be a "pretty texture" to blend into the curly pieces either. Its all about the tools that you use.

HOW TO BLEND KINKY HAIR WITH A LOOSE CURLY WIG

Lets say you opt to not perm or chemically straighten your hair but you want to wear a curly half wig like this one:

This is INSTANT WEAVE SYNTHETIC HALF WIG HZ-7050 from Hairsisters.com retail on sale for $17.99.

She as you can see is a half wig. Half wigs are hair pieces that are pre-sewn tracks of weave on a wig cap that has combs sewn into the front and back of the wig. You leave some of your own hair out in the front and slide the hair piece behind it securing the combs onto your hair (behind the hair left out at front) in the front and back.

Now back to the tutorial. This curly hair is perfect for a Natural sister and I'll tell you why. Given the right products and a few tricks and you can blend this bad boy without even touching a flat iron. And I'll tell you how I used to do it.

First thing I used to do was give my hair a nice wash and condition (choose whatever shampoor/condish combo works best for you I always try to stick to one line and work from there)and then give my hair a good deep treatment with some Leklair cholesterol or any deep condistioner treatment from the shampoo/condish line-again I like to stay with the same line for consistency and also to give the products a fair assessment as to whether they are for me or not. Right now I love Aphogee-its a protein based hair line but my hair loves it and I balance it out with moisturizers-so far so good but feel free to use whatever works for you

After I'm done I add my leaves in then section off the hair I want to leave out, braid it down (single braid or cornrow) then apply a heat protectant to the rest of my hair and blowdry with a ion dryer. Once 85-90% dry I begin to cornrow my hair sometimes all the way back or if I want a flatter style since my hair is VERY thick and I have alot of it I part my hair down the middle and braid the sides going down towards my ears and connect them back and braid them in with the hair at the back of my head that I have braided going towards the back of my neck. Afterwards I seal my ends with mango butter and vasaline (dont knock it LOL) and either pin my ends or sew them together.

Whew! So that killed about 90 minutes right there LOL It might be shorter for you all if your a fast braider :)

So I position the hair on my head where I will be inserting the combs which is right behind my first braid in the front that I didnt blowdry. Once I position it and secure it down I unbraid my hair and this is where the magic begins.

*Disclaimer I dont sleep in my hair wigs/weaves*

I undbraid the hair and take some shea butter and work a small amount into the hair. Then I take some Elasta QP Mango Butter and start at my roots with a boar brush and gengtly but slowly smooth it on then use the brush to work it through while simultaneously flattenning my roots. The MB is soft and moisturizing and has a minute amount of hold to it so I use that to work the rest of it through my own curls and hair. I can also use it to stretch out my ends and make them do what I want them to do. If anyone has used MB before you know what I'm talking about. MB is not a gel but if you put enough of it on your hair it allows you to move the hair where you want it to go. For some extra hold I either use some IC gel or some Elast QP glaze (very little because it will turn extra greesy on you) and use that on my roots and curls. At this point my hair is loosely curly and ready to blend. After that I take my ends that I stretched out a bit with the MB with in some instances help from the IC Gel and begin to blend that in with the curls.

Now this is where is critical that you choose a colour that matches your hair or one that you can get away with blending your own hair in. There is nothing worse then seeing a woman rock a curly weave and its plain as day where her hair ends (usually perched stifly ontop of the weave hair) and the weave begins. Not cool. You want people to look you in the eyes first and linger around your face before they venture, if they will to your hair. Believe me, you dont want them on your hair first.

A point I forgot to make to my natural hair sisters is if you are going to try this please know your hair. If your hair is a 4A or more dont take out 4 inches worth of hair and try to blend it in with the weave. Thats too much stress on you, your hair and the weave itself. It simply wont work in fact it will back fire and you will look a hot mess. No! If you know your hair has a tendency, like mine to act a fool if given enough freedom then only take out what you, the gel and hair products can manage. Its only fair!

So if that means you have to position the quick weave an inch or two away from your forehead with only that amount of hair left out then so be it. You can still own the style after you have blended it to make it your own-but at least it blends and looks believable. Once you get a better hang of the method and the right combo of products for your hair you can then begin to move the quick weave further back and experiment further that way while still keeping in mind believe-ability, blendability and non-tackiness!

*Any weave or wig system should always have these goals in mind*

Is it blendable-if its a weave
Is it believeable-if its a wig or weave
Does it look Tacky-wig or weave you shouldnt look like you stepped out of bobo the clowns amusement park with a free make over!

Once you have figured out how to blend it you can accesorize it too to add to the believeability. You can use skinny headbands like the elsastic ones you get at Sally's, Shoppers Drug Mart or Walmart. They have some nice ones at H&M that are three skinny nads in one which gives a really nice look. Once you get better at it you can pull a small part of your hair and make it into (this is hard to describe but try to follow me)front pony that you secure to the back of your hair with your hair blended into the sides of the quick weave hair(by pulling the quick weave hair forward). Hope you get what I mean. Sorry I have no pics I been doing these styles long before I started blogging and dont have the pics on my pc :(

But everything I'm telling you I have done and had great success with. For years people thought my hair texture was the same as my quick weaves when in reality it really wasnt. It was the products I used, my methods and the tricks I explained. Hope this tutorial helped a bit. If you have questions by all means post a comment and I will do my best to clarify. Till I talk to you later.

Ciao for now and God bless :)

DRY, dry, DRY Hair!

Hello ladies!!!

I have dry hair-there I said it. Its dry. I wish it was lush and mositurized but its not--its DRY!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the summer I combat this by vitamins, water and co-washing. But winter had me stumped. I cant co-wash and go they way I used to without risking getting sick plus my hair doesnt have the oportunity to dry the way it would in heat so I am stuck.

Then one day I spotted an old mositurizer that I bought but felt it was too heavy and decided I wanted to use it up instea dof have it sitting there collecting dust. I hit a goldmine.

This is what I do and use to get soft, moisturized hair!

I spray my hair with aphogee provitamin leave in moisturizer-its a protein treatment to strengthen my hair
then I pour a handful (I have lots of hair) of Wave Neauveau moisturizer and rub it all over my hair.
Last step is I seal it with coconut oil. yes Coconut oil.

AFter that I put my hait on (cant find my silk scarf *insert angry face here*) and go to bed. I wake up with soft toucha ble hair.

To add a bit more to my routine I run the tip of my wildgrowth oil bottle down my cornrows onto my scalp, rub it in then go to bed.

I recently cut about 1 inch of hair off to get rid of split ends. When I did that my corn rows couldnt go behind my ear. A month later they not only go behind my earbut are creeping down the back. So I think so far my hair likes this reggie.

I wash my hair once a week and deep condition sometimes with heat sometimes without.

Hope this helps some one. Tell me what you think :)

FOTD: Hope you like it!

Hi Ladies!!

I'm back with another update!!!!!!

Ok so I have been really trying to work this make up thing out and do some looks for you guys. I havent forgotten about any of ya'll at all so please dont think so.
I think I hit it out the park today on this look and I want to show you. I kept getting turned heads, double takes, triple takes, smiles and stares from plenty, plenty men so I hope you guys like it.
What I did:

I did my eyes first and used a few colours.
Base: MAC Paint pot GroundWork

Lids: 1st colour-->MAC Patina

2nd colour on top-->Coastal Scents (CS) vanilla colour very top left colour

Crease: Made a sidways V with Limited Edition BuckWheat Frost, then Sketch over top.
blend with 217 brush

Lids: To brighten up the vanilla I added MAC's All that glitters over top with my 232 brush and used that colour on my brow bone followed by honesty
For even more definition I dabbed CS Tanish White colour thats in the same row as the Vanilla 4 colours down.

Eyeliner:REVLON ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in Blackest Black

Lashes: ARDELL Fashion # 101 Demi Black

FACE!!

This part I love. Everytime I do it I want to kiss MUA's Michael and Sasha for telling me about it.

I use my 187 brush (love this brush I need to get another one and the 188 too) and my Sephora Foundation brush. I take my NW45 dabb it on the Sephora Foundation brush and dab colour on my cheeks, forehead and chin then I use my #187 brush to blend it all in. It comes out silky and airbrushed. Then I take my #109 brush and my Mineralize SkinFinish in Dark and brush it on my face to set the foundation and bring it down matte Then voila! Here is the end result. Hope you like :)

What do you guys think???

MAC HAUL!!!!!

Ok LAdies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to MAC today and hoocked up with an amazing MUA named Shasha who hooked me up!! I talked to her and told her what I use and what I want and she listened and really helped me find products that were right for me.

This is what I got!

MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural in dark
Lashes in #36 for a day time look
Studio Sculpt Concealor in NW45
Frost Lipstick in "0"

The MAC Mineralize SkinFinish Natural is buildable or can be used as a setting powder for your foundation. The great thing is I can use this now over my NW45 becuase my skin is darker now that its summer then in winter with my NC50 when my skin is lighter.

She gave my a great tip for the concealor. She told me to put the foundation on and mix a little with my moisturizer then add my conealor over top on my problem areas. Reason being is that the concealor is gel based and the foundation is liquid. During the day both will slide over each other and will eventually move and shift. With the concealor over the foundation it will keep in place as the foundation moves beneath it.

I found that in the past when I put the concealor over top the foundation it lasts alot longer. SO I wlll try this again.

Now ontop LASHES!! I love lashes! Like alot!!! I really wanted a daytime lash that was sexy and flirty and long without the drama. I bought these #36's and I cant wait to try them on!!! I will take pics when I do, I promise. I dont want to take pics of my face right now b/c the foundation and MAC Mineralize SkinFinish was put on without prep and prime so my face is a bit greasy. I dont think it represents how my face would really look with these on. SO when I do put it on better (tommarow) I will take pics and post them.

Onto the lacefront!

I bought a synthetic lacefront today and I love it! Its from the Lord and Cliff Collection, Fall I and its so nice! ladies you should get one!! You dont have to glue it down it has 2 combs in the front and 1 in the back. Its really secure and realistic looking. I have a full install in right now so I cant wear it and take pics but once I take this down I will and show you guys how great it looks.

Ok if you have any comments or questions pls comment and post!

Talk to you later :)

BAD GAL LASH Mascara review!

Hello lovelies!!!!!

I am BACK!

Ok so this Sunday night I picked up this mascara because according to alot of reviews it was supposed to give full lush lashes as the name describes! Good news and bad news!

Before I get into that I want to tell you that I formerly had really long lashes! I put faslies on and then tried to take it off myself and ended up ripping so many of them out. My lashes have never been the same.

My remedy is to get Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) and dab it on my lashes at night to get them back full again. Till then I am using cheapie castor oil. Its blah but it is working so I'll stick to it till my JBCO comes in!

SO I have been on the hunt for mascara to give me the same effectas falsies and as my lashes previously were.

This mascara cost me $20 bucks with my Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum points discount. On scale of 1-10 I'd say its about a 7. Its alright! Maybe I need to try it again and let you guys know but honestly its nothing to write home about.

The brush is super HUGE so if your not used to it you might not like it very much. I'll try it again then for the remainder of the week and let you guys know from there!!! Deal???

Now for all of us women who are on a recession budget but still want to wear makeup and have the right brushes for that sexy look like we are balling out of control??? I have a website for you!

I havent bought my brushes from there yet but I have my eye on the SS188 brush which is a mac dupe (duplicate for a authentic Mac Brush) and is apprently really good. Like MAC quality good so I think its a good site to check out if you want to get a good brush but dont have the money to buy an expensive one like MAC.

Hope this helped!
Hugs and kisses !!!

HAIR. SKIN. BEAUTY!

Hey ladies, I'm back like I told you I would be!!!
This weekend I decided to take the LF off and rock a weave. I havent done my own weave in SOOOOO long so I was eager and scared to try it again. It had to look right because I am in a office FILLED with higher ups and I didnt want my hair to look jacked.

Do you want thegood news or bad news first?

Good news:

my corn rows were on point. I did a new technique and pattern (other then the standard staright back pattern) that I know will hold up for at least 4-6 weeks; 6 weeks if I stretch it. I didnt take a pic but I will do my best to describe it.

I cornrowed my sides downwards towards my ears then cornrowed it to the back so it ended at the nape of my neck

The middle I cornrowed straight back so its flat at the top of my head.

I did this so when I washed my hair and it started to grow out it wouldnt be so puffy but would lay flat.

I left a small strip out to cover the wft

Then I sewed it in a horseshoe pattern and combed my hair over the weft

The BAD!!!!

I procrastinated and started everything late because I thought I could do it quickly. YEA RIGHT!

I ended it at 2 am and pressed the hair left out sunday morning before church. My hair didnt blend as well as I wanted it to

I ended up using thermal straightening hair spray to get it straight.

Black hair doesntr suit me. My hair appears black but isnt. Its a dark auburn-y brown. I hated the black colour on me

My bf (whose not black) had to tell me my real hair over the weft needed to be brushed because it was so frizzyas it blew all over in the wind. Thank God he doesnt mind weaves! Thank God! How embarassing!
My co workers looked at me funny and I spent the rest of the day doing hair checks. UGH! I have no time for that! I'm trying to do accounting and make sure the right people get paid and or charged (LMAO) I cant afford to screw that up to be paranoid about my hair.

SO I decided to fix it. I am more then capable and I have a closure weave

I came home took out 2 tracks, sewed down some ends and attatched the closure. I must say its not exactly how I want it but it looks LIGHT YEARS better then it did before?

Believe me? Wanna see the after pics??? DONE! Sorry no before's!

(yep, I was hungry and tired lol sorry for the mad face)

Hope you like.
On to what I also want to talk to you about. SKIN!!!!!!
I have oily acne prone skin which is one of the reasons why I wear makeup; I hate the marks they leave behind so I use foundation to cover it up. Looks great till I take it off and am once again confronted with the reality; badly spotted skin. So I decided that my skin needs to be taken care first and foremost.
So, I stumbled onto Aveeno because it was on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart. That was money well spent. My skin looks much better than it did 2 months ago. I'm trying to build up to the whole line but I dont know about where you live but its expensive here. Nonetheless this is what I use
Aveeno
Morning:
Positively Radient Face scrub with Salicylic Acid for acne prone skin
-this is good bc it has microbeads in it. I leave it on like a mask for 1 minute then rinse it off
Skin Moisturizer SPF 15
After Work/Night:
Positively Radient Dual Textured Cleansing Pads
Positively Ageless Daily Moisturizer SPF 15
Positively Ageless Rejuvenating Serum (I just started this tonight)
I am really loving this line right now ladies. I think its equally important to take care of the skin under the foundation as it is to have a flawless face and stunning eye makeup!
I'm just saying!
This is my face now as is. I had PLENTY more spots then this. Ladies dont bleach your skin. Make that a last resort if all else fails (dermotologist, black soap, and Over the counter products ets). Just stay away from the bleach!!
My skin is much better looking. Much less spots and when i wake up my skin is radient looking. I'm gonna take a pic and show you guys one day.
Night night ladies!

Girl you gotta work it out!!!!

Hello, hello!!

I have started to work out!!! So the studio sculpt was getting TESTED!!

Anyway, I went to the mall and stopped into MAC. my MUA was named Micahel and he really worked it out on your girl. I needed some advice on colour choices for a work look. so we did a few colour choices together.

The results was this!

Excuse the greesy face, He didnt prime with Prep and Prime and I do have oily skin.

Blurry close up

BUT

He did even more. He asked what kind of foundation I used and I told him studio sclupt in NC 50 and 45 mixed so he asked me if I ever tried Stuido Fix Fluid and I told him yes but not right now. Ladies, he introduced me to NW45 and I have to say I am in love!! I dont have red undertones in my skin but I do have a tan and he rightfully pointed out that my yellow undertones would look much better in a NW45 for the summer then I can go back to the NC series in winter. I love him! He is the first MUA who recognized that. I had so many others who wanted to put me in a NW in teh winter and I'm looking at them like they are on some serious crack! I swear, finding a MUA you can trust at MAC is like trying out the different products to figure out which works for you. In an ideal world it would be nice if they were all knowledgable but sadly they are not.

Nonetheless he used the following colours on my eyes and face.

EYES:

Base:Groundworks paint pot
lids: Patina
Outer V: Sketch

Brow Bone and Inner corner: All That Gliters
He used a combo of the #239 brush, #129 brush and the #217 brush to blend.
I loved the eyes but it wasnt till he did my foundation that I saw the full beauty of this look.

FACE:

3 dabs of the NW45; 1 on my forhead and 1 on each cheek.
He blended it out with the #188 brush.
Blush: LoveJoy

Results:

One thing that he did on my face that I will continue to do is apply my eyes first then my foundation after so I can use the brush to clean up any lines or fallen eyeshadow particles. Genius. I used to do that a long time ago once or twice but stopped. I have done it ever since and I love it. I will make this a staple of my techniques.

Oh and I told him I watch youtube videos to help me do new looks and he praised me for it so big shout out to those lovely ladies on youtube banging out those tutorials, Ateeya, Angeec, MACNC40, MichellePhan among many others. I LOVE these ladies and have done thier looks and loved it.

Ok bye for now!! Sorry for the delay. Will update more :)

Ciao!

Tips, Tricks and Reviews!

Sorry for no pics at the moment as I am still sick and just dont have the strength to do my make up or comb my hair as can be seen if one was looking at me right now LOL. But I want to share some tips I have come across when doing my make up.

I was using studio sculpt NC50 which was way too dark for me. I took pics at a friends house and realized how dark it made me look and decided to go to MAC and change it once and for all.
SO I bought 3 items

Studio Sculpt NC55 which is lighter
Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder
187 Brush

Reviews:

Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

Ladies and gentleman can I tell you how much I LOVE my finishing powder??

There is no colour to it but it immediatly mattifies my studio sculpt and makes it stay longer in place. I dont touch up my make up anymore. Instead I come home for lunch and use the same powder brush and dott it all over my face to get rid of any shine then I am on my way!

187 Brush

Now that I know how to use it I love it. I squirt a bit of the SS55 on the back of my hand then use thebrush to pick up a bit then dott/pat it all over my face. It works best this way and does create a nice airbrushed look. To help that effor I use a kabuki brush to further blend or beat it on my face. After I follow it up with the finishing powder. LOVE!!!!!

Studio Sculpt Nc55

Its defineitly lighter but a bit too light. The finishing powder helps set it and when the oils on my face kick in it brings the colour down a bit darker which I think was what was happening with the SS50. All in all I like it alot and I will be using it more from now on!

TRICK and TIPS #1

Miz your Studio Fix foundation with your studio sculpt to get even more wearability and staying power! I got this tip from a MAC artist and off youtube and it works. Whenever I want to get the foundation colour closer to my skintone I mix my NC50 studio fix with my NC55 Studio Sculpt and apply with my foundation brush from Sephora or my MAC187 brush. Both works well though when I do this trick I prefer my sephora brush to the 187.

Hope this helps!

Love you all!!

Kisses ;)
